Etsy Shop a Go-Go!

Sereknitty here!

I have finally managed to find time to get the first items posted to our Etsy shop. More coming, of course, but here are a few teasers:

You can check our our shop at KnitCoreBuffalo.

In other news:  LoloKnits is currently exploring Iceland and hopefully bringing back loads of yarn and pictures of sheep.  And, I got a SPINNING WHEEL for Christmas. It's an Ashford Kiwi:

which my dad was assured by the lovely people at Webs was great for a beginner and a lefty.  It's GORGEOUS and I assembled it ALL BY MYSELF (you can applaud here.) I'm having trouble deciding which hand I want to draft with (which isn't a problem I've ever had with a drop spindle) and keep switching, but it doesn't seem to matter. I think this may be just another lefty evolutionary advantage (like being able to use a mouse or a ten key pad WHILE taking notes. Oh yes!) Either way, my first attempts are spinning on a wheel are turning out gorgeous. I'm using some lovely lovely roving I picked up at the Rhinebeck Sheep & Wool Festival by Gnomespun Yarn (www.gnomespunyarn.com). The colour is called "Mourning Dove" and it's so gorgeous that I don't think I could spin badly enough NOT to make beautiful yarn. If that made any sense.  I can't wait to see how it turns out.

So, that's the news now. I hope LoloKnits will have pictures and stories when she gets back from Iceland next week.  And, coming up soon...KNITTING NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS!

Cheers,

Sereknitty

  1. How cool is a spinning wheel for Christmas. Have you pricked your finger yet? Is there a prince waiting? Or is there no spindle needle... Darn Sleeping Beauty for teaching us that all spinning wheels have needles.

I am most excited to see your first spun skein. What weight are you spinning? Or are you oscillating between a couple of weights...No harm in that.

I am also stoked about the etsy shop. Good job, girls! I will be sure to pass the shop on to my knitting group in Florida.

    I miss you both,

  2. We miss you, too, Jaime!

No spindle needle, but maybe I can ask for the Fairytale Upgrade for next Christmas.

I got my first skein spun and plyed and everything!!! I'll post pictures as soon as I take them. I am very proud of myself. It turned out to be a rather bulky weight yarn after it was all plyed, lots of thick and thin bits, but I knit up a swatch and I think it's lovely! The only problem now is that I can move through roving so much quicker than with hand spinning that I am going to soon run out. p.s. I had a great idea on how I'm going to dye that lovely roving you sent me for Christmas! Next weekend's project.

    Enjoy Harry Potter!
